Elvis Costello gave fans their money's worth at his Thursday night show at the Tabernacle.
Readers tell Buzz that he performed three hours with four encores and took a tour through pop music history, covering everything from the Beatles to traditional tunes and doing wild and quirky things like morphing "Allison" into an eerie version of "He'll Have to Go" and then "Suspicious Minds." For a guy who can be stiff on stage, Costello was in rare form, charged and full of comments (including a line about George Bush not knowing the difference between Iran and Iraq that sent some of the middle-aged Republican ex-punks in the audience out the door). At one point, he was introducing the Imposters, his band (made up of members of his original group, the Attractions). Pointing to his drummer, he said, "... and Pete Thomas, the best drummer in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame." It wasn't until this morning that most of the audience heard the news: Elvis Costello and the Attractions were selected last night for induction into the hall. (submitted by John Foyle)
