Early Elvis Costello was, for a lot of people now in their 30s, the very fountainhead of alternative rock — the X on the map where hard, cathartic music met sharp, sardonic insight. Two decades later, remarkably, he's one of the high priests of pop music, embracing the braided traditions of country, rock and soul, along with Tin Pan Alley classicism, as completely as anyone (From The Tennessean.com)

The text below as apparently run Oct 30,2002 in a NYTimes advert, paid for by Rolling Stone Magazine:
A BIG FAT THANKS TO RECORD EXECS Thank you for fighting the good fight against Internet MP3 file-swapping. Because of you, millions of kids will stop wasting time listening to new music and seeking out new bands. No more spreading the word to complete strangers about your artists. No more harmful exposure to thousands of bands via Internet radio, either. With any luck, they wont talk about music at all. You probably knew you'd make millions embracing the technology. After all, the kids swapping were like ten times more likely to buy CD's, making your cause all the more admirable. It must have cost a bundle in future revenue, but don't worry - computers are just a fad anyway, and the Internet is just plain stupid. Rolling Stone

From Mike Bodayle: Show ran 2 hours 15 minutes. He was in a great mood having a blast! Again I thought Laura was great although some of my Nashville buddies didn't care for her. We got some country treats - Good Year for the Roses (dedicated to Jerry Chestnut - its writer who sat in the front row under a giant white cowboy hat). Stranger in the House and then later a trio of Wondering, Sweet Dreams and Tonight the Bottle Let Me Down.We also got I Wanna Be Loved ("for those who came here from Memphis"). Beautiful as was the unamplified Still Too Soon to Know. Two Dylan references - Tangled Up In Blue at the end of Brilliant Mistake and Senor again in I Want You. In the crowd: E-Streeter Gary W. Tallent, John Prine, Bill Lloyd, Trisha Yearwood, Kim Richey, Chuck Prophet, Paul Burch. There may have been more as EC twice referred to friends in the audience.
