Here are a few other songs that either were B-sides, Demos, or other versions of songs. There is a good many of these on Mark Schnitzius' page which I don't have the space or inclination to include here. If you have anything to include here feel free to email it to me. I'm always interested in new lyrics to songs I never had lyrics for. Also, anything that is missing on the album lyrics pages would be much appreciated as well. Also, This version of My Dark Life is transcribed from the San Francisco show of the Costello and Nieve box set, so any corrections and modifications please email them to me. A special thanks to Derrick Billings for the lyrics to the Songs in the Key Of X version of My Dark Life. This transcription of St. Stephen's Day Murders is done by my ear and I confess a definite unfamiliarity with much of the scottish vernacular, so any corrections would be welcomed on that too. Included here are also the Paul McCartney duet You Want Her Too, An obscure B-Side called London's Brilliant (Which is also on Now Ain't the Time For Your Tears, Which our man wrote for Wendy James) and finally an alternate version of Pay It Back, recorded with the band Flip City in 1975. Also, some new additions to the miscellaneous songs page are a couple B-sides from the All This Useless Beauty singles, Life Shrinks and Almost Ideal Eyes. Also included are a couple cowritten tracks, Punishing Kiss with Cait O'Riordan and That Day Is Done from McCartney's Flowers in the Dirt album. The title track from the Costello/Frisell import album Deep Dead Blue is now listed here, as well as a Costello/Nieve song called Lesson in Cruelty. The Dallas Version of Less Than Zero was written because everyone seemed to think that the original song was about the events leading up to the assasination of John F. Kennedy. (For those who don't know the original song was about Oswald Mosely, leader of the British Union of Fascists back in the 1930's) The Dallas Version can be found on the Live at El Mocambo disc. Also now included are B-sides to 13 Steps Lead Down called BASEMENT KISS and WE DESPISE YOU, as well as the B sides to "You Tripped at Every Step" (STEP INSIDE LOVE, YOU'VE GOT TO HIDE YOUR LOVE AWAY, and STICKS AND STONES). Thanks to Craig Ciccone for this and a whole bunch other additions to this web page this month. Mr. Ciccone has been busy, because of him I am adding "Tomorrow's Just Another Day" (Costello w/ Madness), "The End of the Rainbow" (A Beautiful rendition of what has to be one of Richard Thompson's best [Alas, very depressing] songs.), "My Resistance is low", "Congratulations", "Put your Big Toe in the Milk of Human Kindness", "That's How You Got Killed Before", "Full Force Gale", "Sally Sue Brown", "Do You Know What I'm Saying", "She Moved Through The Fair", And "They Didn't Believe Me", songs from bootlegs, other people's albums and promos. And now from the latest batch of submissions by Craig Ciccone we have "Having it All", "The Image of Me", and "Smiling Shore". Winding down the latest additions is the Roy Orbison version of The Comedians.
You Want Her Too
(W/ Paul McCartney)
Paul: She makes me go so wrong
Elvis: yeah, you kept me awake you know you did
Paul: I've loved her oh so long
Elvis: So why don't you come out and say it Stupid?
Paul: She makes me do things I don't want to do
I don't why I should be telling you
I know that you want her too
Paul: My intentions are quite sincere
Elvis: That's not what you said the other night
Paul: And all you can do is sneer
Elvis: So go ahead, kid yourself, you're right
Paul: She makes me do things I don't want to do
I don't know why I should be telling you
I know that you want her too
Paul: I've got a better chance than you do
Elvis: I know that you want her too
Paul: You're such a hopeless Romantic
She told me you're so predictable and nice
She only did you a favour once or twice
Elvis: Once or Twice
Paul: She makes me go so wrong
Elvis: So why don't you lie back and enjoy it?
Paul: Oh my concious is clear and strong
Elvis: Yeah she says that Paul is just the boy for me
Paul: She makes me do things I don't want to do
I don't know why I should be telling you
I know that you want her too
Both: I know that you want her too (3X)
Pay It Back (Flip City Demo Version) Stop thief; you're gonna come to grief if you don't take a little more care. as you're spread on the toes and the cover goes from this one shoestring affair. I may be crazy but I can't contemplate being trapped between the doctor and the magistrate. One of these days I'm gonna pay it back, pay it back, one of these days. One of these days I'm gonna pay it back, pay it back, one of these days. Schoolmaster told me I could be somebody if I didn't let too much get in my way. And I tried so hard just to be myself, but I keep on fading away. When the lights went out, I didn't know what to do. If I could fool myself, then maybe I'd fool you too. One of these days I'm gonna pay it back, pay it back, one of these days. One of these days I'm gonna pay it back, pay it back, one of these days. I wouldn't say that I was raised on romance. I wouldn't say that at all Ooooh but if you give me just a half a chance I'll be over as soon as you call Some people say that it was guaranteed. Somebody somewhere must've lied to me. One of these days I'm gonna pay it back, pay it back, one of these days. One of these days I'm gonna pay it back, pay it back, one of these days. One of these days I'm gonna pay it back, pay it back, one of these days. One of these days I'm gonna pay it back, pay it back, one of these days.
My Dark Life (As Sung on Costello and Nieve set) Nobody wants to believe You're the same as everyone What makes makes me unique My Dark Life There was a kink in the world Sent that statue tumbling An invitation east So we can watch it all crumbling she came on like a light and so softly she spoke you don't know you don't know about My dark life And you think you're a guest You're a tourist at best Peering into the corners of My dark life Now that you, You tear your dreams From consumptive ballerinas She'll stand on tiptoe for you In a grey battered tutu She stay's just where she is cause of voyeurs like these with an accusative look that says My Dark Life Rubber men await you there In each beguiling alley To pierce you and squeeze you and remind you of My dark Life Enter the pious elite In their preening finery And bang the tambourine They're dining on rice paper scenery See how the villain attracts Envious glances from everyone She's waitressing by day It doesn't bring in much money now And as strong concealed arms Set off bells and alarms In the strangest locations of My Dark Life But the fantasies slipped as he tipped her in cigarettes She tries to smile graciously When she wants to kill him Now the victory is sweet You get down upon your knees It's the perfect position for kissing west on leather So they came from Ugly, Texas and from Nameless, Tennesee and Peculiar, Missouri and from places closer to me All the cream of heartless england cheer the carnival is over and members of red army bandsmen played America the Beautiful

London's Brilliant I didn't want to be some satellite clown So I went up to London 'cos I heard it's falling down Found the Denis the Menace of Little Venice Still digging up the bones of Strummer and Jones Revolutionary days were sadly over And a cool profile down Ladbroke Grove Won't make it no more You could wake up in a doorway London's brilliant when it's raining Everybody moaning and complaining London's dismal and divine And I know one day, one day ... (one day, one day) It's going to be me Mine eyes have seen the gory faces of those bitter men and their bawdy talk And that's not all Every night before I closed my eyes I'd say a prayer to my desires Hung up on a poster on the wall Don't let me grow up to fail and fall If I must grow up at all Well the night's got chilly and he swore he'd love me silly But he couldn't raise a spark in the dark in Hyde Park With a bite and a bark, he tried to make his mark Now he's getting fucked silly somewhere in Piccadilly He said I could be a little Madam in Mayfair But I'd rather wake up in a doorway somewhere 'Cos in the long run I'll probably be someone London's brilliant when it's raining Everybody moaning and complaining London's dismal and divine And I know one day, one day ... (one day, one day) It's going to be me
St. Stephen's Day Murders I knew of two sister's who's name it was Christmas And one was named Doe and the other was named Mee I wonder if they grew up hating the season The good will that lasts until the feast of St. Stephen For that is the time to eat drink and be merry Until the beer is all spilled and the whiskey has flowed And the whole family tree you neglected to bury are feeding their faces until they explode There'll be laughter and tears and you'll see over years And be stuck with that drink made from geraldes (?) Cause it's all we got left as we draw their last breath And it's nice for the kids as you finally get rid of them in the St. Stephen's Day Murders Uncle is gargling a heartbreaker nare while the babe in his arms pulls out all that remains of his hair And we're not drunk enough yet to dare criticize The great big kepitide (??) he's about to baptize With his gin flavoured whispers and kisses of sherry His Kris Kringle shirts went out over the shop While the lights from the Christmas tree blow up the tele And space closes in like an old cold pork chop And the carcas from the beast left over from the feast My still be found haunting the kitchen And there's life in there yet when you live to regret When the ones that we poisoned stop twiching But we laugh until the tears when the tea and the beers mixed up with that drink made from geraldes Cause it's all we got left as they draw their last breath And it's nice for the kids as ya finally get rid of them RID OF THEM In the St. Stehpen's Day Murders
Life Shrinks Shall I wear a buttonhole to jog your memory? So you'll recall the promise That I swore you made to me when we were younger You look sorry for yourself but what about? I'm some idea you're not without a doubt So you can put away that tongue I don't know who I'm trying to kid I'll find another name for you I'll try to put the blame on you For everything we did Life shrinks and before you know it You have forgotten all the cuts and bruises Just be thankful we were only fighting for buttons And you know by now who loses You're only half awake because you never go to bed And when he hears about it You know then the both of you's is dead and that's a promise You'll be sorry because I won't tell you again You'll stick like that one day And if you don't believe me go and ask St. Thomas I don't know where it's going to stop Spend your whole time trying to stay From breaking down or running away Or trying to keep up
Almost Ideal Eyes Here she comes with her almost ideal eyes and her flawless skin and her petulant pout The memory of such a long blond alibi still makes me want to shout out loud You ************ when you clear your head my dear you can't come out here in those stolen clothes Telling me all about some mystery I hope she isn't one,I hope she isn't one of those Almost ideal eyes you through a rosey hue so beautiful, trusting You find liberal is an insult now and care is what you pay for Be sure of what you're wishing for,be careful what you pray for When you look into those almost ideal Love is smiles,he will hypnotize you wild He tries to analyze your dreams Fill you up with all his big ideas while he really wants to make you Scream out loud at the phony innocence and pained pretence and the dismal rage. The vacant lot that thankfully time forgot Where you never have to act,you never have to act your age Almost ideal eyes you through a rosey hue so beautiful, trusting you find stupid is a compliment and thrill is what you play for Be sure of what you're wishing for,be careful what you pray for When you look into those almost ideal eyes In the spirit all your friends look uglier and you find you're wearing an evening gown Weeping over some tiny broken bird while the sky is decorated shocking pink and a dirty shade of brown and you think you need to be tranquilized a feat that may fit to your new career Whatever you invent you'll never be content with Almost ideal eyes you through a rosey hue rebellion is just currency, the moon is what you pay for be sure of what you're looking for,be careful what you pray for when you look into those almost ideal eyes
Punishing Kiss (Costello/O'Riordan) I favour a good punishing kiss it helps pass the lonely afternoon another stiff drink, wipe off that lipstick For when you reach a certain age All the most villainous men can be found on Channel Ten I make them dance in attendance 'We will be back in a minute or two' And he will punish that girl Oh forget the reason Just look at me I'm lost in a social whirl She was never so witty Always struggling to be full of fun 'On weekdays From mid-day to one' In a little black cocktail dress everyone hates She'll be saving the world inbetween fashion plates I know what she gets up to in the back of that blacked out limousine And I catch myself shouting at the screen I think that it's time to turn over They say it's harmless I know A hundred and ten percent certain Virtually real If you need something to feel Then favour a punishing kiss It helps chase the wasted afternoons The flowers and pearls The long lost relations That love sick tom-boy comes in bloom The pointless heartache That seems to belong in my blue room Can't stand the suspense The endless embraces Each episode lends the silly pretence Say I can look away when I will never miss it Starts with a joke And ends with a punishing kiss
Deep Dead Blue (Macmanus/Frisell) Deep dead blue That I invite Bringing on disguise of night Turn the whole Kaleidoscope Deep dead blue Deep dead blue that nightly shades Most unlikely escapades As the lights that frighten fade 'Til the dawn drags into view I'm lost in deep dead blue Deep dead blue I'd rather stay Far from the cruel coloured day Leave me in my monochrome 'Til I find a finer hue Beyond the deep dead blue
Lesson In Cruelty (Words: Costello, music: Nieve) Here's a thought to dwell upon, Daddy's girl is almost gone Now there's just a vain princess 'Her Ruthlessness' Tearing up the nursery Stars more used to glittering Pictured in the guttering Faces caught about to laugh Torn in half Slipping through your fingers See them scatter Maybe it doesn't matter But I still really want to pick pieces up You can't fool me With this lesson in cruelty It's not as if I was asking time to stop In violent blue Like roses red She laughed as she tore off his head The hours she gazed on her former champion Now it's just a frame of sellotape and torn wallpaper As she rips his pretty face to bits -Chorus It's too much too soon or so it seems To put away these childish dreams You'll find out soon enough that worship can be tough Love is just a name to celebrate a vision Or confetti littered with regrets. See it scatter... Dear heart to good to waste But if some hot-head should claim it Don't rush to his embrace And it remains to say... I'll love you just the same, whatever your decision As you put the paper to the flame (It's a lesson in cruelty)
That Day is Done I feel such sorrow, I feel such shame I know I won't arrive on time Before whatever out there is gone What can I do, that day is done It's just a promise that I made I said I'd walk in her parade Hot scalding tears I thought would flow Still in my heart they'll never show Chorus: That day is done That day is done You know where I've gone I won't be coming back That day is done Well I recall the time and place When they announced her precious face I thought at once my heart would burst Still every time is like the first There was applause when she stepped up I wished that I could interrupt I made no sign, I made no sound I know I must stay underground Chorus That's why she walks, or so they say She always knew just what I needed Now if she would just look my way One time before they proceed She sprinkles flowers in the dirt That's when a thrill becomes a hurt I know I'll never see her face She walks away from my resting place Chorus
The Comedians (Written by Elvis Costello, rearranged by Macmanus for Roy Orbison) I sat there alone upon the Ferris wheel A pastel coloured carriage in the air I thought you'd leave me dangling for a little while A silly twist upon a childish dare Below I saw you whispering to another man Who held the lever that could bring me down He'd stop the world from turning at your command It's always something cruel that laughter drowns Chorus: And I'm up while the dawn is breaking Even though my heart is aching I should be drinking a toast to absent friends Instead of these comedians I can hardly hear the music from the carousel The wind picks up, the carriage starts to sway As one by one the lights go out: it's closing time I see you take his hand and walk away, walk away Chorus They say that you will always be the last to know They say that all that glitters is not gold It's not just that you're never coming back to me It's the bitter way that I was told Chorus
Less than Zero (Dallas Version) Jenny takes her clothes off in succession, While her husband rides a bumper in the President's procession. She's sees him on the screen as she looks up from giving head. When he's had enough of that her lover throws her on the bed to teach her she's alive and suddenly he's dead. Turn up the TV. No one listening will suspect, even your mother won't detect it, no your father won't know. they think that I've got no respect but everything means less than zero. Hey, ooh hey, hey, ooh hey. Calling Mister Oswald, calling anyone at the scene, If you were taking home movies there's a chance you might have seen him. They've got a thousand variations, every witness in a file. Jenny puts on some coffee and she comes back with a smile. She says, "I hear that South America is coming into style." chorus A pistol was still smoking, a man lay on the floor. Mister Oswald thought he had an understanding with the law. She's got rubies on her fingers, Jenny turns and looks away. Her mind upon a basement out of the USA. She says, "Let's talk about the future now we've put the past away." Here she comes, here she comes now.....
Basement Kiss (Written by Elvis Costello and Cait O'Riordan) Lucy Grace can't show her face Down in the North End Road for in Belgravia Rumors have been whispered and suggestions have been made Did you sell your friends out when the heat got too intense? You say you like the danger, but it's only a pretense You say you need the money when everybody knows You can always fall back on your inheritance Did you bruise your arm on those false alarms? Did you bruise your pride on his smile so wide? Only fingertips from forbidden bliss Did you bruise your lips on this basement kiss? Who's that sneaking 'round the door? You can't come here no more Can't you go home again? She used to sit alone for hours Spend her evenings watering dried flowers When her mother came to stay and finally went to bed Lucy Grace was in the front room shooting through your head She tried to take your breath away and give you something else instead Next year she'll serve the function in her Audrey Hepburn hat It still won't suit her much, but she'll get over that She'll be pale in faint indifference as they're handing out the prizes Stealing Daddy's words of wisdom and her ugly sister's tranquilizers Why were you so tardy putting up your guard? When you hurt so easily and you try so hard? Did you bruise your arm on those false alarms? Did you bruise your pride on his face so snide? Only fingertips from forbidden bliss Did your bruise your lips on this basement kiss?
We Despise You (Written by Elvis Costello and Cait O'Riordan) [Elvis speaking]: We're just gonna start this one cold. Hey, you-- Are you looking at me? Don't waste your time 'Cause I know your crap, and I know that pose And the lines around your eyes don't show And your face is in repose The skin is tightening as you touch a nerve Did you get what you paid for, or did you only get what you deserve? Chorus: Go home, go home, go home, go home And don't come out again 'Til we tell you to, 'til we say you can Go home, go home, go home, go home And don't come out again We analyze you We despise you We can't help you now The sins--is it on your face As you think about that cul-de-sac And that which you lack and the slanders you repeat When I don't fall at your feet Too old to be so frightened and too scared to tell the truth Your lying teen-age anguish which you can no longer blame upon your youth (Chorus) We despise you (repeat 4X)
Tomorrow's Just Another Day (Written by Smyth/Barson, Submitted by Craig Ciccone) Trying hard, I thought I'd done my best All my life, I can't get no rest Some who've closed the door before Say I can't carry on no more I hear them saying, "Tomorrow's just another day" I hear them saying, "Tomorrow's just another day" I hear them saying... Listen, love--try to take it in All these facts leave me in the swim Down and down, there is no up I think that I've run out of luck I hear them saying, "Tomorrow's just another day" I hear them saying, "Tomorrow's just another day" I hear them saying... Walking now over covered ground There's a chance if I move around I need a moment to reflect On the friendships I have wrecked I hear them saying, "Tomorrow's just another day" I hear them saying, "Tomorrow's just another day" I heard them saying... I hear them saying... I hear them saying, "Tomorrow's just another day"
The End of the Rainbow (Written by Richard Thompson, Submitted by Craig Ciccone) I feel for you, you little horror--safe at your mother's breast No lucky break for you around the corner 'Cause your father is a bully and he thinks that you're a pest And your sister, she's no better than a whore Oh, life looks so rosey in the cradle But I'll be a friend and I tell you what's in store Oh, there's nothing at the end of the rainbow There's nothing to grow up for anymore Tycoons and barrow boys will rob you and throw you on the side And all because they love themselves sincerely And a man holds a bread knife up to your throat, and it's four feet wide And he's anxious just to show you what it's for [Well, your mother works so hard to make you happy But take a look outside the nursery door There's nothing at the end of the rainbow There's nothing to grow up for anymore] Oh, life looks so rosey in the cradle But I'll be a friend and I tell you what's in store Oh, there's nothing at the end of the rainbow Oh, there's nothing to grow up for anymore All the sad and empty faces that meet you on the street Are walking in their sleep or in a dream Every loving handshake is just another man to beat How your heart aches just to cut him to the core Oh, life looks so rosey in the cradle But I'll be a friend and I tell you what's in store Oh, there's nothing at the end of the rainbow There's nothing to grow up for anymore
Bolan's Note: Verse in brackets is from Richard Thompson original. Costello has used both in his shows.
My Resistance is Low (Written by H. Carmichael and H. Adamson, Submitted by Craig Ciccone) You touch my fingertips and my heart is aglow You bend to kiss my lips and I can't let you go Maybe I should resist--I'm a fool, I know But at a time like this, my resistance is low Your eyes have magic, they seem to say "Come closer, come closer, my darling, come closer" And somehow I can't stay away Can't you see that I want to be adored More than you'll ever know And I'm going overboard With a capital "O" So don't be persistent, baby, keep your distance You know my resistence is low Your eyes have magic, they seem to say "Come closer, come closer, my darling, come closer" And somehow I can't stay away Can't you see that I want to be adored More than you'll ever know And I'm going overboard With a capital "O" So don't be persistent, baby, keep your distance You know my resistence is low So don't be persistent, baby, keep your distance You know my resistence is low My resistance is low... My resistance is low...
Congratulations (Written by Paul Simon, Submitted by Craig Ciccone) Congratulations Seems like you done it again Well, I ain't had such misery Oh, since I don't know when Whoa, oh, since I don't know when I notice so many people Slipping away And many more waiting in lines In the court rooms today Whoa, in the court rooms today Love is not a game, love is not a toy Love's no romance Love will do you in, love will wash you out Needless to say You won't stand a chance, you won't stand a chance I'm hungry for learning Won't you answer me, please Can a man and woman Live together in peace? Oh, live together in peace?
Put Your Big Toe In The Milk Of Human Kindness (Written by Costello/Wasserman, Submitted by Craig Ciccone) Put your big toe in the milk of human kindness Have you ever seen the like of this mankind? If a boy or girl is cute, we simply shoot to starry heights And he maybe and he might But always so capricious, and a face of wonder with suspicious And though we came from frogs and fishes Our taste is far from fine Put your big toe in the milk of human kindness Put your big toe in the milk of human kindness Have you ever seen the like of this mankind? You take the Himalayas, you'll take Manhattan's finest mountain top He wouldn't change his whiskey sour for any bitter crop But always so contrary, from Father Christmas to the Virgin Mary And thought the moments of belief Fly by before you find if you'd just unhand your mind Put your big toe in the milk of human kindness But always so contrary, from Father Christmas to the Virgin Mary And thought the moments of belief Fly by before you find if you'd just unhand your mind Put your big toe in the milk of human kindness
That's How You Got Killed Before (Written by Dave Bartholomew, Submitted by Craig Ciccone) Well, you're standing on the corner flagging all the girls you see Now do like EC and let those ladies be You know that's wrong, man, you know that's wrong Boy, you better get control--that's how you got killed before That girl you just met who got a big guy for a pal Will put knots on your head for messing with his gal So take it slow, man, let those women go Well, I'm just trying to tell you--that's how you got killed before Now, you wouldn't listen, Ephrom, you got two black eyes That's what you get, Daddy, for messing with men's wives So take it straight--let those women go Well, I'm just trying to tell you--that's how you got killed before
Full Force Gale (Written by Van Morrison, Submitted by Craig Ciccone) Like a full force gale, I was lifted up again I was lifted up again by the Lord No matter where I roam, I will find my way back home I will always return to the Lord In the gentle evening breeze, by the whispering shady trees I will find my sanctuary in the Lord Oh, I was headed for a fall and I saw the writing on the wall Like a full force gale, I was lifted up again I was lifted up again by the Lord No matter where I roam, I will find my way back home I will always return to the Lord In the gentle evening breeze, by the whispering shady trees I will find my sanctuary in the Lord And no matter where I roam, I will find my way back home I will always return to the Lord Like a full force gale, I was lifted up again I was lifted up again by the Lord Like a full force gale, I was lifted up again I was lifted up again by the Lord
Sally Sue Brown (Written by Arthur Alexander, Early Montgomery and Tom Stafford), Submitted by Craig Ciccone) Look who's back in town--ain't nobody but Sally Sue Brown All you boys better run for cover if you don't want to be a broken-hearted lover See her in that real tight skirt--she's got what it takes just to make you hurt Don't be fooled by her big brown eyes She's made of cheating misery and low down lies Makes no difference where she's been--I know Sal's been doing those things again Breaking hearts all down the line--like she broke that poor heart of mine Like a fool, I'm on my way--like a fool, I know I'm gonna say "Glad you're back, Sally Sue Brown, please let me love you, baby Don't put me down" Makes no difference where she's been--I know Sal's been doing those things again Breaking hearts all down the line--like she broke that poor heart of mine Here I go, I'm on my way--like a fool, I know I'm gonna say "Glad you're back, Sally Sue Brown, please let me love you, baby Don't put me down" Don't put me down You're no good, but I love you Yes, I love you You're no good (repeat 7X)
Do You Know What I'm Saying? (Written by Elvis Costello, Submitted by Craig Ciccone) The past prima donna in buttons and bells Who's speaking what's left of her mind as the audience rebels Do you know what I'm saying? Goes into her melodramatic farewells At about twenty thousand or so decibels Do you know what I'm saying? The lights they were dimmed, the music by Strauss She entered on rollerskates, fetching and touseled[?] She danced like an ambulance, talked like a cartoon mouse She took off her clothes and it brought down the house Do you know what I'm saying? Chorus: Do you know what I'm saying? Why don't you come when I call? Do you know what I'm saying? Can you still hear me at all? The male counterpart--stupid, brutal, and rich Lies under the armor of the world like an ich Do you know what I'm saying? Because he's such an attractive young lout Putting words in his mouth and then trying them out It doesn't much matter what they are about As long as he has something nasty to spout Do you know what I'm saying? Boys will be boys--blood must be spilled And nothing like showbusiness was ever built For letting your critical function wilt Under the weight of your liberal guilt Do you know what I'm saying? (chorus) He's the genuine voice of his unloving state And the first to complain when they start to investigate Under his criminal past and his polythene skin He's blowing his lines with his cheeks sucked in Do you know what I'm saying? Hush, now, we have something special to say Can you put your hands together this way? Do you know what I'm saying? (chorus)
She Moved Through The Fair (Trad Arr by David Cassidy, Submitted by Craig Ciccone) My young love said to me: "My brothers won't mind and my parents won't slight you For your lack of kind." And she stepped away from me And this she did say: "Oh, it will not be long, love, 'til our wedding day." She stepped away from me And she moved through the fair And fondly I watched her Go here and go there Then she went her way homeward With one star awake Like the swan in the evening Moon's over the lake The people were saying that No two were o'er wed Only one have with sorrow that never is said And she smiled as she passed with her goods And that was the last that I saw of my dear Last night she came to me My dead love came in And moving so softly, her feet made no din And she laid her hand on me And this she did say: "Oh, it will not be long, love, 'til our wedding day."
They Didn't Believe Me (Written by Jerome Kern, Submitted by Craig Ciccone) And when I told them how beautiful you are They didn't believe me, they didn't believe me Your lips, your eyes, your cheeks, your hair Are in a class beyond compare The most beautiful girl one could see And when I tell them, and I'm certainly going to tell them That I'm the man whose girl one day you'll be They'll never believe me, they'll never believe me That from this great big world you've chosen me (repeat second verse)
Step Inside Love (Written by John Lennon/Paul McCartney, Submitted by Craig Ciccone) Step inside love Let me find you a place Where all the cares of the day Will be carried away By the smile on your face We are together now and forever Come what may Step inside love and stay Chorus: Step inside love Step inside love Step inside love I want you to stay You look tired love Let me turn down the light Come in out of the cold Rest your head on my shoulder And love me tonight I'll always be here if you should need me Night and day Step inside love and stay (Chorus) When you leave me Say you'll see me again For I know in my heart We will not be apart And I'll miss you 'til then We'll be together now and forever Come what may Step inside love and stay (Chorus)
You've Got To Hide Your Love Away (Written by John Lennon/Paul McCartney, Submitted by Craig Ciccone) Here I stand head in hand Turn my face to the wall If she's gone, I can't go on Feeling two feet small Everywhere people stare Each and every day I can see them laugh at me And I hear them say Hey! You've got to hide your love away Hey! You've got to hide your love away How can I even try I can never win Hearing them, seeing her In the state I'm in How could she say to me "Love will find a way"? Gather 'round all you clowns Let me hear you say Hey! You've got to hide your love away Hey! You've got to hide your love away
Sticks and Stones (Written by Titus Turner, Submitted by Craig Ciccone) People talkin' tryin' to break us up Why don't they let us be? Sticks and stones may break my bones But that don't bother me People talkin' tryin' to break us up When they know that I love you so So I don't care what the people might say I'm never, never g'n let you go I've been abused (I've been abused) In my heart (I've been accused) I've been accused (I've been accused) I've been rebuked and I've been stung People talkin' tryin' to break us up Scandalizin' my name They say anything just to make be feel bad Anything to make me ashamed I've been abused (I've been abused) In my heart (I've been accused) I've been accused (I've been accused) I've been rebuked and I've been stung People talkin' tryin' to break us up Scandalizin' my name They say anything just to make be feel bad Anything to make me ashamed
Having it All (Written by ????????, Submitted by Craig Ciccone) Looking down on all of this On everything I'll ever miss Everything I've ever wanted Is perfectly matched and beautifully appointed But like a poor child at Christmas Who's tricked and deceived You can make any promise in the world Not one could be believed Through the [?] windows Of a warm winter stove I see the ice on my fingertips And the look that I loathe But there's one thing for certain I'll never beg, borrow, or crawl If you can't give me what I want I'm having it all If you can't give me what I want I'm having it all You could make any promise in the world Not one could be believed Through the [?] windows Of a warm winter stove I see the ice on my fingers And the look that I loathe But there's one thing for certain I'll never beg, borrow, or crawl If you can't give me what I want I'm having it all If you can't give me what I want I'm having it all
Image of Me (Written by Wayne Kemp, Submitted by Craig Ciccone) Well, I know she's the life of the party And without her, he thinks he would die But don't be fooled by her laughter She's had sad times--she knows how to cry Well, she drinks and she talks Just a little too loud And with her pride gone, she tags along With any old crowd Well, I know I'm to blame And I feel so ashamed That I've made her The image of me I met her in a little country town She was simple and old fashioned in some ways But I loved her 'til I dragged her down Then she just gave up and drifted away Well, she drinks and she talks Just a little too loud And with her pride gone she tags along With any old crowd Well, I know I'm to blame And I feel so ashamed That I've made her The image of me Well, I know I'm to blame And I feel so ashamed That I've made her The image of me
Smiling Shore (Written by ????????, Submitted by Craig Ciccone) So he found his way To the smiling shore A year or two From a strange war The gentle lies To dying eyes A thousand miles of walking Old man talking Last night I heard him shouting in his sleep He doesn't eat Someday in November Every night for forty years My father still remembers For this is his kingdom, his home And his story will lost in the struggle For Thou and glory inside him The final solution To no one's problem Friends and lovers in stinking rows Avoiding their eyes Checking their numbers Burning their clothes Soul survivor You wouldn't even see him in a crowd The family man waits in a cube to draw his pension Facing memories of a life He can't bring himself to mention
